Writing this on a note 2 using the Stylus l think I am converted, yes enough to give up my beloved iPhone 5. I Cant believe I am saying this but its true - More to follow!!!!
The Nikon V1 is a strange camera, rarely is the photography industry so seperated in their opinions. It seems that those who own the camera, sing it’s praises and those who don’t own it, run it down badly. Which is a shame. This camera has dropped to a quarter of it’s release price, so it begs the questions: is this good value now? and what kind of images does it produce?
As mentioned earlier, here are a couple of Nikon 1 Series V1 ISO sample shots - In my opinion, nice and clean, using only lighting from a nearby lamp - Random subject that I am now about to consume, and yes, on a school night

And B&W conversion

Nice enough bokeh, even with the wide end of the 10-30mm VR?

These are albums or tracks that have has a massive infuence on me over the years and all have a story to go with them. But that’s for another time.
Always looking for new music so anyone got any suggestions for similar bands then fire away

…in the UK, but wasn’t that really a revival? Others make claim to Punk starting in the early 70’s with bands like the Ramones playing CBGB’s Lower Eastside NY. Again, perhpas this could be seen as the beginning?
So let me throw this out there - What about the original 60’s garage bands?
(the genre getting it’s name simply from that itself, bands forming and practicing in their parents garage, primarily in the US but also the UK/Europe)
This was a lo-fi, tripped out, fuzzed out, grity sound with shit loads of attitude and determination. Kids were sick of the same pop and twee sounds sounds that their parents approved of…
History has a habit of repeating itself………….
In the 70’s we had bands like The Buzzcocks, Joy Division, The Pistols, Sham 69 etc. Then (late) 80’s brought Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, in fact the whole (early) Seattle sound to our shores and ears. Then early 90’s on you have the likes of The Charlatans, The Stone Roses, Blur which took ‘Indie’ to the masses some might say crossing over to Indie/Pop
There are literally 100’s of bands that deserve a mention but to create a list would mean little to the story
So, if we listen to bands today like FIDLAR, Too Many Boyfriends, (early) Arctic Monkeys, Palma Violets, Metz, PINS etc………would they have come to being without the unsung heroes from the 60’s….Probably but hey, I am trying to keep this scene alive.
So if you are looking for something a bit different, checkout these bands, The Litter, The Chocolate Watch Band, The Electric Prunes, The Seeds, MC5, Positively 13 O’Clock or Google Nuggets and Pebbles for a good intro (do they really sound 50 years old?????? - Or message me for some recommendeations

Self portrait of Leon and Tallulah then converted to B&W using Camerabag 2 for Mac - Camera Used - Nikon V1 10-30mm Lens
Having followed Steve Huff for a long time now it has become clear to me that I share a similar perspective on most things photography - I have owned most of the camera/lenses that Steve raves so pationately about (never a Leica though) - So I was tempted to try the Nikon V1 out - So far so good. I find the styling of Nikon DSLR’s ‘UGLY’ (D200/D90) were fine. So is not surprising to hear Nikon devotees dissing the V1 design, personally, I love it - Will post some photos taken using it soon
If you are in to street photography then this is a great choice. Focusing is ultra fast and accurate, matrix metering betters my old D90 and (so long as you leave Active D-Lighting off), the colours and contrast are great OOC. This will not suit (nor is it designed for) weddings or studio work or pixel peepers come to that. However, for the price you can get this for now, it really is awesome value for money. No camera is the perfect all rounder (if the X100/s had removable lenses, that might be) but this would suit a lot of people as either their main camera or a travel/street camera.

Swapping from the mighty iPhone to a Samsung? Anyone else out there done the same?
